How to Measure Out Tubing for Your Hula Hoop
Not sure how much tubing you need? Here's how we measure it out from the coil — it's easier than it seems.
Video transcript
Many people are unsure how to properly measure out tubing, but rest assured it's not as hard as it seems. At Hoopologie we have a standard practice of measuring tubing with a cloth measuring tape. Start the measuring tape at the end of the coil and run it along the outside of the tube. We don't recommend a metal tape measure for this — you'll want a conformable cloth measuring tape.
Hold the end of the tape measure with one hand, and run your opposite hand along the outside of the tubing, keeping the tape on top of the tube. Once you've reached your arm's length, hold the tape in place with the leading hand, bring your opposite hand to meet it, and repeat until you reach the desired measurement for your hoop. Make sure you start with the end of the measuring tape that begins at one inch.
Use pipe cutters to make as straight a cut as possible at your measurement. If you're cutting from a new coil, trim off the straight ends first — approximately one to two feet — and start measuring from there.
