How to Slit Tape with the Hoopologie Tape Slitter
Slit decorative tape into thinner strips for pinstripes and weaves with the Hoopologie tape slitter.
Video transcript
Hoopologie sells this nifty tool that can slit your decorative tapes into a thinner strip. Please note this tool is for tape with a peel-off liner only — it does not work with gaffer tapes or tapes without a peel-off liner. We use it for decorative tapes, reflective tapes, and 3M grip tapes.
The process is relatively easy. Adjust the slitter bars to the width of the tape you want to slit, then adjust the blade to the width you want to slit the tape into. Once you have the exact measurement, place the slitter on a flat surface and thread the end of the tape into it with the blades up, following the images on the side of the tool — the tape must be threaded correctly or the blade won't cut it. Once the tape is in place, push the blade down to perforate the tape.
Make sure the width is accurate for your project, then hold one hand on top of the slitter to keep it in place while pulling the tape through the other end with your other hand, using long fluid movements. The starting end of the tape won't be slit, so finish that end with a pair of scissors. Note: a sharp slitter blade works best, so check it over time — we sell replacement blades, and additional blade holders if you want to slit multiple strips of tape at once.
